This story is intriguing. In a futuristic earth a young boy named Fin, receives a transmission from outer space that changes his life. Years later he is part of a crew sent into outer space to investigate the origins of the signal and perhaps find out if there is other intelligent life in space.Saved from a disaster by a specie of peaceful alien beings, the crew makes friends and discoveries and Fin falls in love.
Between trying to avoid another less friendly alien race, the uglies, losing their ship, returning to earth and trying to protect their new friends from the more negative elements of the human race. Fin and his fellow crew members have a lot of interesting adventures.
I wish there had been more about the uglies, and the transmission Fin receives as a boy. But it was a good read nonetheless.

I loved the story. While I haven't really read a lot of science fiction I can say that I enjoyed the story of Fin and his new interesting friend and the adventures they had in this alien situation. Thought provoking and makes your imagination soar - neat story.
This is a science fiction book about Kevin Finley or Fin as he is known, who goes on a mission to outer space. He and his crew encounter friendly aliens they call the Ngrozi. Fin is immediately drawn to Glisten, one of the aliens. They fall in love despite differences and conflict. Interesting story that I could not put down.
The hero from Earth falls in love with Glisten, an alien from the faraway planet of the Ngirozi. Although this is utopic, it's a very sweet story, about real nice people. Well, many - people and aliens - are not too nice, but it's lovely to be able to identify with decent people, and to think of an Angel Planet hovering somewhere. Romantic, but humankind is far from perfect, and...I don't want to give away more of the story.
I really enjoyed this story. It was light heated and a very quick read. I loved the characters and the world that the author built. I'd love to know more about the characters, and the culture of the alien.
I would have liked a bit more back story about the transmission Fin recived. If it was indeed from the Ngirozi, I'm guessing it was.
I eagerly await the next story the author puts out
What fun it is to be able to take a peek inside this author's mind and intriguing imagination. Well done, a very interesting and entertaining read. This is the second Derick Butler book I've read and it won't be the last. He has all the parts and pieces to become an exceptional storyteller. I have a hunch he is still at the beginning of his writing career; I am anxious to see how he develops his craft.
This fast paced story is an enjoyable quick read with a fun plot line. Fin is a young boy that gets a transmission from an alien race and must befriend them while trying to stop the threat of another group of aliens known as the uglies. The world the author creates is a fascinating and fun, although there is still more story that could be told.
All in all a good engaging story that will keep you reading to the end.
I do like a good yarn. This book is interesting. It is aimed at young adults, therefore the little bits of "sexual tension" in it are appropriate as they are more like someone having a crush.
The characters were fleshed out, but I would have liked to have seen a tad more about some of them.
It took a lot of courage to write a book where communication was not based on speech and have it work. I felt it worked fairly well. Enough that I actually already started Carrick, the second book in this series.
It does need some editing and maybe a run through a grammar checker but a nice first book.
