I loved the first book in this series, this one, I struggled with.It was well written, and I loved Booker. The problem I had was with Laurie.
She was a snarky, foul mouthed, condescending, snob. Every time she opened her mouth it was to make snide comments or be flippant rather than carry on an adult conversation. To move the topic off of real issues and put them back where she wanted them, for her to be in control and have meaningless sex.
We got small glimpses of her in the first book, but nothing to even hint at the type of character she was. I get the whole terrible childhood/daughter of the town trouble maker issues. But when it got right down to it, she was the mirror image of the woman she hated. She justified her actions while condemning her mothers. What Booker saw in her that made him wait ten years for her to finally "grow up", is beyond me. He had the patience of a saint. And deep down must have saw something that made him stick around.
She does finally see the light and has an epiphany about the way she's been living her life.
It's told in dual POV's and does end with an HEA. And I'm looking forward to seeing where Arden's story goes.

Yet again Ms. Beck delivers a sexy, emotional book. What can I say about Booker apart from I want him! He's protective of Laurie and has been for ten years. The man gives me the swoons. Laurie hasn't had it easy and is wary. With a terrible mother, she's not used to letting people into her life, until Booker pushes his way in. This is a wonderful story that I couldn't put down. I can't wait for Ms. Beck's next book.
This was just a brilliant book. With amazing characters and story. I have been in a mediocre book reading slump lately and this book definitely put me back in the fabulous book reading category. This is a story of life, love,romance and growing up and accepting yourself for you not who your family is or isn't. This is one of those stories that you can't wait to finish but dread finishing. I purposely kept putting it down as to not finish because I didn't want it to end!!! I loved the characters, the story it was all perfect. I just wished it was longer. Buy now for only 99cents it'll give you hours of enjoyment.

Hard Compromise is a fast paced story based on one of my favorite tried and true tropes, but it’s anything but ordinary. That’s due to the clever, snappy dialogue infused with the perfect combination of seriousness and humor; the cast–both main and secondary–are all completely unique and highly entertaining; and the love scenes so fluffin’ hawt there should be a warning about possible spontaneous combustion.
I think this was the author’s most cleverly written and sensual book to date. I loved everything about it, and hope there’s another installment soon featuring Booker’s sister.

Whew, it's hot in here! Samanthe Beck has written an oh so hot and sexy read in HARD COMPROMISE. You might want something to fan yourself with while reading this one!
Even though Ethan and Laurie shouldn't fit, they do. Ethan is a cop, but he is from a wealthy family. Laurie had a crap childhood with a horrible excuse for a mother. As a teen, she was a wild child and Ethan,as a rookie cop, had to arrest for underage drinking. For years, he spent a lot of time thinking about her (yes, she propositioned him, but she was way too young) and keeping her out of trouble.
Now, it has been ten years since they met. Laurie has grown up and running her new shop, Babycakes. She has had a long road getting her life together. Finally, she and Ethan stop dancing around each other and hit the sheets. Fanning alert!
Bad thing, her bakeshop burns down and she has sunk her life into it. Enter Ethan, who offers his help by convincing her to be his fake girlfriend so that his family will stop trying to pair him up with their choice of pedigreed wealthy women he should date. It's his plan to slowly convince Laurie that they could truly be together.
This could have been a fluffy sexfest, but Ms Beck wrote layers of depth and you couldn't help but care about Laurie and Ethan. The story is less than 200 pages, but you get to know these fun characters,especially Laurie who is again having to deal with her failure of a mother. Ethan and Laurie with their sizzling chemistry, might not have been a couple for ten years, but their hearts connected all those years ago and they have a chance for that elusive (and for them, hot! hot! hot!) happily ever after.
